Eight classrooms of three types\u2014computer labs,&nbsp;<a class=\"topic-link\" title=\"Learn more about collaborative learning from ScienceDirect's AI-generated Topic Pages\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/social-sciences\/collaborative-learning\">collaborative learning<\/a>&nbsp;spaces and lecture halls\u2014are studied. Lighting simulation models are calibrated and validated by measurements taken onsite and utilized to generate both instantaneous and annual physical lighting data.<\/p>\n<p>A questionnaire survey is distributed to 333 participants to gather&nbsp;<a class=\"topic-link\" title=\"Learn more about subjective responses from ScienceDirect's AI-generated Topic Pages\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/engineering\/subjective-response\">subjective responses<\/a>&nbsp;to current lighting perception. The results show that electrically lit lecture halls present more uniform distributions of lighting environments, while daylit computer labs and daylit collaborative learning spaces present relatively lower daylighting conditions. For daylit computer labs, horizontal&nbsp;<a class=\"topic-link\" title=\"Learn more about illuminance from ScienceDirect's AI-generated Topic Pages\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/topics\/engineering\/illuminance\">illuminance<\/a>&nbsp;is an effective predictor in terms of controlling lighting levels; For electrically lit lecture halls, the mean luminance of the horizontal 40\u00b0 band is an effective predictor in terms of subjective lighting comfort.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><em>Publication is published under \u2018open access\u2019 or under the author\u2019s permission and copyright of the work belongs to the author.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This paper presents a field study that explores lighting qualities within higher educational classrooms in Singapore.
